I wish that I had gotten a photo of it...
Last week we had a giant wind/rain storm. It came out of nowhere and it was nuts. The street I work on cuts clear across the city and when I went to cross it, the wind was going nutty. I looked one way down the street and it was clear blue skies, calm and beautiful...when I looked the other way it looked like the apocalypse. The clouds were black, wind was going nuts, it was crazy.
So cool to see.

It's still sunny in England. By all accounts our summer should have ended by now and we should be back under the torrential heel of the rain.
Well Isaac came and left.
A lot of people wondered how the bloody hell we got more wind damage from a Cat 1 than we did from Katrina. I compare it to having a choice between a one round match with Mike Tyson in his hey day vs a 6 round fight with an aging Sugar Ray Leonard. One is going to hit you hard and make it hurt, the other (Isaac) will linger around and take you out punch by punch. Isaac just hovered over us and lingered. So much so that there are areas that never flood that flooded due to rivers cresting, and 1 million people at one point had no electricity. Consider that Metro New Orleans is approx 1.3 million, that's a lot of A/C not running in 90 degree heat.
Starting a Hurricane bank account next paycheck. Dropping 25-500 in every check. I figure an extra 700-1000 for hurricane season is a budgeted necessity. And if the season comes and goes, 50% into savings, 50% into an NFL game.

Local radio ran a bit where they said that east coast media is overhyping the storm as much as possible to get ratings up (make people check the boob tube nonstop). It's going to be a bad rainstorm with hard wind, but not really a hurricane.
Well, we gotta have a reason to talk about the toughness and resilience and spirit of New Yorkers every decade or so. Go tell it to someone from New Orleans.
