2018 NXT: Takeover LIVE Discussion Thread

This is the 16th NXT PPV, and 15th Takeover and we're at the home of the MLB World Champions,WrestleMania 13, far too many murders, and straight edge hockey fans....the Allstate Arena in Rosemont **Chicago** IL!

We got 5 strong matchups, with 4 of them being title matches. We start with redemption vs chaos....

    Rodrick Strong V Eric Young
This match is for the WWE United Kingdom Championship.

    Challenger: Pete Dunne

    V

    Champion: Tyler Bate
This match is a Ladder match for the NXT Tag-Team Championships.

Challengers: Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa: #DIY

    V

Champions: Akam & Rezar: The Authors of Pain (w/Paul Ellering)
This is a Triple Threat match for the NXT Women's Championship.

    Challenger: Ruby Riot

    V

    Challenger: Nikki Cross

    V

    Champion: Asuka
This is for the NXT Championship:

    Challenger: Hideo Itami

    V

    Champion: Bobby Roode
I never run out of questions so here's another QUESTION OF THE WEEK.

Name your favorite WrestleMania 13 match that wasn't Bret Hart V Stone Cold.
Finally, we are gonna deep dive into some Rosemont history for our VIDEO OF THE WEEK.

We are going to The Wrestling Classic 1985, where Rosemont IL had a WWF Championship match between The Immortal Hulk Hogan V Rowdy Roddy Piper (RIP)

    https://youtu.be/rwJrmmP4NHY?t=16m24s

Enjoy the show....and don't be like Dunne, respect your elders.

I think we see two title changes tonight. The UK Championship for sure and then either Asuka or AOP suffers their first loss. Still feel like Ember should be the one to dethrone the reigning Women's Champ so I'm leaning towards the latter. Not to mention the stipulation allows Akam and Rezar to lose the belts without being pinned or submitted. So unless Gargano and Ciampa are moving up to the main roster soon, I'd go that route.

Smartly booked by having Roddy jump SAnitY early. Continuity from the Tye feud...

Let's see if they do anything with Strong. Giving Sanity their first big loss should be worth something.

Solid opening match. They gambled with losing the crowd in the middle portion by letting Young slow it down so much but everything from then on was great. Crowd was hot for Roderick.

Alright, meltz might have to give the WWE UK divison it's first 5 star match.....amazing from start to finish.

Perhaps WWE sold the CW division short by not having them run NXT first.

Pete Dunne was the victim of multiple nip slips tonight.

Asuka won with the SLIDING D of all things.

Odd ending to a good match, Cross is ready to go up....but I don't know if the normals are ready for her.

    Tag Team Main Event.....Whaaaa?

Edit: Looked like Itami is going up, and so are #DIY...both deserve it.

I don't AOP is losing for a very long time.

This has been a damn good weekend for WWE wrestling, can't wait for Backlash to finish it off.

OH SHIT YEP. It was time......psycho killer returns.

That ladder shot Gargano took was the most viscous thing I've seen in awhile. Gave me Joey Mercury flashbacks at first.

Tyler Bate showed why he was picked to be the first UK champ. That match was excellent and I can't wait for the rematch.

Heavy Machinery's time to take out AoP.

Been quiet in here for a while, which got me thinking - do people watch Takeover live? Or, knowing there's a PPV the following night which might be three days long in the current WWE, do people tend to save their saturday nights and come back to it another time?

I watch live when I can. I follow NXT on Facebook (I don't follow WWE) and have had stuff spoiled due to my own actions so I try to do a social media blackout if there's an event and I can't watch live. I think a lot of the live discussion just goes in the other thread sometimes as it's the first one people see.

So how are we feeling about Takeover? Hype for this one seems a bit lower than previous ones to me...

  14. #14
Lower hype, but this show will be an A+ one. I look forward to pretty much every match.

Got to admit, I probably won't watch. It's just not jumping out at me much. Maybe will check out one or two matches after the fact.

I think it's going to be a great show, it just lacks the star-power of many Takeovers from the past. Three strong matches and hopefully the other two can surprise.

There's a big part of me that wants Baszler to just merk Moon in a couple of minutes.

Shane we didn't get a good Dream/Ohno build. Feel there could have been some good character work in that.

I'm watching my first takeover show tonight. Watched my first 205 Live show this week and truly enjoyed it. Hopefully make it 2 for 2 with non-main roster shows. (I can't count 205 Live as main roster.) Plus I'm pulling for La Sombra. I want to see him as champ so this will be fun.

I was hoping AOP would win

I'm sure I'll be the only one but that was just kind of there. Some good moments, but not as much stood out as I thought it would.

Big win for Dream. A little sloppy but that's a heavy man he was going against.

Ember stepping up her game against this slug.

Ember Moon clearly watched Tanahashi this morning. Such great selling. What a performance by her.

Agreed with you Cult with the selling. I turned things on mid way through the match and it looked like Bazler had beat her up badly.

WWE NXT Twitter account picked an unfortunate photo to post of Ember after the win. Nipple alert.

I like the psychology of this match with Black eschewing the use of weapons. Really suits his character.

Can I get an over/under on thumbtacks? It is NXT...

In other news crowds cheering for tables when the performers are doing something else really pisses me off. What is hitting a man with a stick not enough for you?

  31. #31
Aside from that kendo stick shot and bringing in all the weapons, nothing has happened in this.

That backdrop oh my god. That’s like one of those moves the WWE tease but a wrestler ends up reversing out of.

The DVD onto the chairs and the double stomp through the table spot were awesome. The rest of it...eh. I liked it, didn't love it.

That fucking chair spot! Ouch. Cole is gonna have trouble getting out of bed in the morning. That first kendo shot was awesome too. Perfect timing. Shame black mass didn't connect properly at the end.

Yeah it is terrible. Pretty sure there was a monitor under the ring that could be seen in one of the earlier matches. So if Ciampa is indeed coming back to attack Gargano after he wins that's where I expect him to emerge from.

Oh Damn, bumps from the apron straight to the ground with nothing breaking the fall always make me wince.
