LIVE WWE TV Discussion Thread (RAW, SD, 205 Live)

The Monday Night RAW Episode for the 2nd of January, 2017: It's A New Year, Yes It Is

    - Happy Early Birthday to former WWE commentator Jim Ross, who turns 65 tomorrow.
    - Happy Early Birthday to WWE Hall of Famer Jacqueline Moore, who turns 53 on Friday.
    - Happy Very Early Birthday to Jack Gallagher, who turns 27 on Saturday.
    - Happy Very Early Birthday to former WWE wrestler Chris Masters, who turns 34 on Sunday.

--- The History of the WWE Royal Rumble ---
    January 29, 2012
    "Prelude To The Biggest Night"

    --- Questions To Ponder ---

    - It has been confirmed that Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns for the Universal Title will occur at the Royal Rumble PPV, and that Chris Jericho will be suspended above the ring in a shark cage. Seriously, how brain dead is this idea?
    - Will Emmalina debut tonight, or at this rate, will never debut?
    - How likely will the team of Cesaro & Sheamus remain tag champions past Wrestlemania?
    - The only two confirmed names for the Royal Rumble this year is Brock Lesnar & Goldberg. Will anyone else formally say they're entering tonight?

--- Enjoy the show, everyone. ---

No quotes. Barely anyone said anything last week...

I know Mick turned down a GoFundMe for his hip surgery, but can we start one to get him some clothes that'll fit him now that he's thinner?

So, the faces get to cheat against the heel, who has to overcome the odds on his own? That doesn't seem right.

    Karl Anderson wins a 1-on-1?!

2017 is going to be a weird year.

They moved Hogan to the other side. Someone call The Rock.

You'd think McMahon saw the Kingsman movie for the umbrella gimmick, but the truth is he finally saw the old Avengers series.

Can't imagine the conversation with the indy guy for this. "Hey, you get to be on RAW...wearing a Kevin Owens Show sign on your face"

I wonder how high is the animosity between Jericho and Goldberg. Has Goldberg ever gotten over Jericho knocking him out?

EDIT: I love that KO got in Goldberg's face and didn't back down.

I was feeling Braun today - especially how towering he looked when he was in the ring with Goldberg. But damn, that was one lame ass way to send him out, a weak-looking double 'spear', and he doesn't even get up after that? They should be building him up as the unstoppable monster heading into the Rumble, not the other way around.

You are looking at it in the fans eyes, and correctly, but you have to look at it from Vince's eyes. He just had Goldberg beat Lesnar in less than 2 minutes, and is being touted as the favorite in the Rumble, and then you have Vince's golden boy as the other half of the spear and we all know that Reigns is booked like he is the second coming of SuperCena. So it makes sense from that perspective.

However, where has the Kevin Owens that was about to spit fire into Goldberg been? Why hasn't the WWE booked him that way for his title run? Why has he been the chicken shit heel? He should be the aggressive in your face prize fighter persona more often.

Maybe it makes me a big dumb stupid mark, but I got a kick out of the double spear. And it makes sense from the perspective that powder pointed out: two monster babies hit him with their finish.

I can't believe that even at 50 Goldberg matches up so well. He didn't look out of place at all standing there with a big dude like Reigns, and I like that he seems happy to at least interact with the next gen. A lot of guys wouldn't have been willing to do that segment and not have KO and Jericho (and probably Reigns) running from them or his Reigns with their finish for the big end pop.

Our VIDEO OF THE WEEK comes from Nikki Bella impersonating Carmella.

    ______________________________________________205 LIVE______________________________________________ ____________

Tonight is scheduled to mark the first main roster appearance of Tajiri in years!

Also TJ Perkins has challenged the self-proclaimed KING of the Cruiserweights, Neville.

Our first QUESTION OF THE WEEK of 2017 is about one of 205 Live's commentary team.

Will Austin Aaries get called up by the way of 205 Live, if so who will be his first opponent?
Enjoy the show (even if I can't), and be sure to catch Talking Smack where hopefully Daniel Bryan is all out of sick days and comes to work.

It won't let me correct the Dean part of my post but face it Dean will probably be a heel before the end of the year so I'm probably just ahead of the curve.

I didn't mean the idea of a double-spear (it's a classic wrestling trope where the two babyfaces team up to take the giant), I just thought the execution was weak, it didn't look impactful, and not having Braun stand-up after that was a mistake. He should have gotten up, looked annoyed and left, just like the monster heels would do back in the day. Particularly the Undertaker. He would get hit with something, get up, and leave. I don't mean the sit-up or the landing from the ropes on his feet stuff. Even Khali would do this. It's different from the chicken-shit heel who just runs away scared. Basically the monster heel gets up in a semi-unfazed way, shrugs it off, and leaves annoyed, motioning he'll fight another day.

Dean Ambrose doesnt need a heel turn. He needs a breakup. Dean hasnt been interesting since he started making real money. He is arguably one of the best starving artists ive ever seen. His work in FCW was epic. But once he got what he wanted, he took that chip off his shoulder. Money, Hot Girlfriend, Fame and Stroke. Dean Ambrose needs to show some fight. He has Sid disease.

AJ Styles vs John Cena outdrew Raw ... thats awesome.

"He is off TV for four months and he comes back and gets a title shot, why? How does this work?"

AJ said what everyone else was thinking...

"You've been gifted a title match, by, basically your brother in law".

    Love AJ tonight.

Nope. NJPW made AJ Styles the Greatest Wrestler on God's Green Earth.

OMG John Cena just had a tugging on Superman's Cape moment.

Cena promo tonight is not his best work.

EDIT: And if the WWE does have Cena beat AJ, then everything about the SuperCena stuff still rings true.

He needs a mouthpiece. Strowman, who is getting better on the mic, is years ahead of Corbin.

    Corbin needs a mouthpiece.

He needs someone like Miz who could take his beatings while leaving him strong and help him get over. He is too green and needs to be protected.

Otunga hates it when JBL brings up Jennifer Hudson.

I would think a true manager, or a "retired" wrestler. Like a Fuji.
