I was suggesting Jericho as the GM since he no doubt has a soft spot for the Cruiserweights from his WCW days and probably hates seeing what's become of the division. Y2J always likes taking on new challenges and he'd do more for 205 Live than Enzo ever did.

Do I think there's any chance of it happening? Of course not. One can dream though.

It's not like he can single-handedly rescue the entire show/division in his role as GM where he would merely recite whatever scripted lines they wrote to fill time that week, while booking would remain as it is. There's a reason why guys like Aries and Neville left. They would also probably move him into a Shane like role, where he, while being GM, occasionally feuds and haves matches with people on the show. In no time, he would be reduced to a joke CW.

Nah, I don't think so - Jericho would revel in the GM role on 205Live (and, for that matter, on any other show). He'd have creative freedom to do as he pleased on the mike, which he almost always seems to have had anyway, plus could occasionally compete when the moment called for it.

He'd actually be a better choice than, say, Mysterio. The main quality a GM needs is to be able to cut a good quality promo when restricted on time, and Rey isn't very good at that side of things unless he has someone opposing him to bounce off of.

I don't think he's coming in to do anything in WWE permanently, or semi-permanently, until he gets off the boat in Novemeber or whenever that cruise thing is. But he'd be a good choice for that role in my opinion.

EDIT: Looks like whatever that shitshow Raw was worked - highest viewership since the Raw after WrestleMania 31 (which was over 5m), averaging 4.5m over the three hours.

I would laugh my ass off if it was Malenko. I'm sure 20 years of not being on camera has improved his mic skills and on screen presence.

I like the La Parka suggestion. Realistically Goldust is a fun option. I'd love to see him occasionally mix it up with some of these guys in that role, ala Regal in NXT and FCW a couple years back.

Yes and no. Their overall viewership was up, but they took a bath between hours one and three, almost 800k viewers lost. And I don't blame anyone. I finally made it through that show last night and...yikes. It was more like an episode of SNL than Raw.

I don't blame people at the Manhattan Center for being pissed, either. Looking back on it, they should have had the Matt vs Bray match at Barclay's since JR and King had no idea about either character and Cole/Graves could have gotten things over better, and put the closing Braun/Brock/Kane deal at Manhattan Center. Maybe move the DX reunion to Barclay's, too? Shit, give Barclay's an AJ Styles main event match and don't even show them the Braun stuff.

That's what I think they were missing. There was nothing "can't miss" from either location, so rather than making Manhattan Center watch on a screen most of the night, give them matches while angles and whatever are going on at Barclay's. It was "all hands on deck" wasn't it? So give them some cool match that they might want to see like Nakamura vs Cesaro to eat up time while stuff's going on at Barclay's and keep them happy. Also, keep JR and King from falling asleep.

Then you've got all these cool unaired dark segments and matches that you could use for a DVD release on the show, and no pissed off crowd at either location.

YOU DIDN'T LIKE THE SHOW COACH?! Everything is meaningless now!

And Skitz, my man, what are these suggestions for GM you're throwing out?! I love Malenko as a worker but as mizfan pointed out he wasn't good on the mic 20 years ago; I doubt the situation has improved. I love Kidman too, but he wasn't a great mic worker either and he's been off the grid for eons. I can't see it being either of those guys; I can't see it being Jericho or Mysterio either as one of them still has a lot of stuff to do with New Japan before he comes back and all indications are that Mysterio has other focuses right now aside from WWE.

The correct answer for 205 Live GM: THE JUICE! I'd watch the show on DailyMotion the next day if they brought Juvy back. Knowing WWE though it'll be the return of Vicky Guerrero.

Haha, holy shit, if Juventud came back and made himself head commentator as well as GM I might actually watch 205.

Honest to god, I might watch for Vickie Guerrero too. Love that woman.

Haha! It took me two viewings over two nights. I don't know if you saw any of it, but it ended and, while it felt like every bit of three hours, I was like "It's over!? That's the end!?"

Loved Reigns vs Miz, loved Elias, hated pretty much everything else. And this is coming from the biggest Braun Strowman fan on the planet.

I'll catch up on the Fantastica Mania cards over the next few days and hopefully put Raw 25 out of my mind.

  9. #2329
You're gonna actually watch FantasticaMania?! While I have you in a lucha mood, do yourself a favor and watch Titan vs. Mephisto first. Begins at 1:38:02 on the video.

Really good match! That double underhook submission with the legs crossed is bad ass, I might nick that.

My buddy went to an Arena Mexico show last year and had the time of his life. They were selling beer by the litre for like $2 and encouraging everyone to just be as loud and rowdy as they wanted.

Also, a side note, BOING! is spectacular. There's this Mexican place in town run by the family of a Mexican immigrant and they bring it in. So damn good.

  11. #2331
I've seen variations of that move before but never as a submission. That was excellent. And that dude doing it is 49! Not that that move in particular is too dangerous, but look at the other stuff he did! They really need to get whatever keeps those luchadors healthy down there and give it to Taker.

That's how Arena Mexico operates. These days they get a lot of tourists along with the usual crowd (I guess Arena Mexico is a huge tourist destination spot due to its history) and last I heard ticket prices are pretty reasonable, if not downright a steal in some regards. Hence they pull in about a couple thousand or so fans during Sunday and Tuesday, and then do nearly 10K for the Friday show, which is generally the loudest and most fun of the three not counting the big shows (where they legit sell out or nearly come close). It's pretty unbelievable how big CMLL is; they own all their arenas so they keep most of the profits, they're the only North American promotion other than WWE that can put 10K plus in an arena during a given year, they're the only North American promotion other than WWE to draw a $1 million gate (for the Atlantis-Ultimo Guerrero match) and they've been doing it all for 85 years now. They're the biggest promotion in the world no one talks about. More people are aware of AAA than them and AAA is a dumpster fire.

God, someday I'd love to go to Arena Mexico for a big CMLL show. That's higher on my list than the Tokyo Dome, no question.

Lucha is absolutely dark magic with the way it keeps guys healthy into old age, but I also think if we could go back in time and make Taker 16 inches shorter it'd probably help his knees a lot.

Lucha is also different in how they take bumps. You'll see alot more rolls than flat hard back bumps for example. Also I have to imagine that Taker deciding to jump over the top rope at his size, do countless leg drops did not help his body hold up.

Bayley is going to interfere and cost Sasha the match. You heard it here first.

    EDIT: I was wrong.

I missed a whole Lucha convo... damn. One thing I regret is that in LA growing up, they always showed AAA. Which AAA was bigger in the 90's, but it wasn't until the mid-2000's that I truly understood that CMLL was more important to Lucha than AAA. LA was AAA territory at that time. CMLL though, just studying the history, is part of the big 3 to me. Next time I go to Mexico, I already told my wife I'm going to Mexico City, and I'm watching a Lucha show. Before I die I want to watch a show in Arena Mexico, Madison Square Garden, and the Tokyo Dome.

Now, about Raw... hum... I don't know. Maybe because I only caught the last hour, but really?

Two really good and lengthy matches on 205 Live tonight. I wish the result of the second match was the opposite though. I really enjoy watching Bate.

    Drake Maverick though....

Oh I thought for sure it was going to be Bate vs Cedric in the final. Am quite surprised by the result.

I actually quite like it. Sometimes if you're going to have a stupid name you might as well go for the most stupid name. I wonder if Spud being GM was always the plan or if this is just a kick back from the Enzo stuff.

Yeah, the name isn't any more stupid than Rockstar Spud.

Good call on the new GM, and good call by the announcers on acknowledging that he was known as Rockstar Spud. To a new viewer, the chants of Spud could have been quite confusing or even sounded like they were taunting him.

I thought the name was meant to be cheesy? Like naming him Max Uppercut or something, it's a "cool, badass" name for a tiny little annoying guy.

I'm fine with the name, it's just similar to a porn star. Way better than Rockstar Spud.

Not happy with Miz going to the Chamber match (I'm assuming as the qualifier is happening now). I just don't like how he's elevated the Intercontinental belt, just to make it an afterthought to Brock again. I get the logic, but I wish he would have said something to the effect of "Screw the Universal Championship, I already am the Main Event."

I'm not that impressed with the line up really. I fully expect Braun to win the main event and come out last but midway through the match just break out of his pod cause he's had enough and just wreck havoc. Would have preferred Apollo to get in over Miz to have that spot monkey that I think balances out an EC match and offers the variety.

Well she's not in the Chamber, and there's no way they're ending Asuka's undefeated streak at Elimination Chamber to earn the match at Mania. So it's multi woman garbage or nothing for her it looks like

What makes anyone think Asuka is picking Bliss? Unless I missed her making the decision all they keep doing is alluding to the fact she'll pick Bliss. The more they allude to it the more it convinces me she'll pick Charlotte and it leaves Jax to face Bliss. All Asuka has to do is say she already beat Bliss and she doesn't want a guaranteed win so she's gonna pick Charlotte. It still annoys the heck out of me she's never been given a title shot against Bliss.

To be fair, she could take a DQ loss to Nia. How would that happen? I guess Bliss could get Asuka DQ'd (since Nia and Bliss are buddy buddy, Bliss could hope for Nia to be an ally during the match). Though, I admit it is a bit of a stretch.

Who'd have thought that taking 205Live back to it's roots would be it's saving grace? I mean, literally who could have watched the Cruiserweight Classic and gone 'I know, we need to put these guys on TV every week in lengthy competitive matches with actual consequences'? It's not like that was at all the selling point of the tournament...

I thought they'd basically clarified that Asuka was challenging for the Raw title on Raw this week. Especially with the Nia match to determine whether that's a triple threat or not.

I suppose the alternative is you throw a little bit of doubt on the result, have Nia on the edge of winning and then Alexa interfere to cost her the win. Nia and Alexa then have a bit of added heat and Asuka can go off to Smackdown and wrestle Charlotte.

And then you need to fit Rousey on the card (presumably) in something else.

I love Drew all the time. I really don't want them to take away his 'for a better 205 Love's stuff, though.

Anybody think it's weird that the Fast Lane main event is now set as a fiveway with four heels and AJ?

I was just thinking that earlier. I suppose Ziggler could turn face in due time, but I think Sami Zayne is more likely.

It was weird watching it though because both Baron and Dolph had the crowd behind him the match.. it wasn't major chants or anything and they didn't change their characters really however I think the crowd wanted the five way because Zayn and KO have dominated the scene.

I don't think its terribly important to change alignments yet when the match is designed to be any man for themselves chaos. You can use KO and Sami as the whiney heels, Corbin and Ziggler in that weird tweener role... then forget about both Corbin and Zigglee post fastlane lol

Unless they go with Corbin vs Nakamura at Mania...

I think the biggest heel move anybody on Smackdown could pull right now is taking away AJ/Nak. It would be amazing.
